We are afflicted in every way
but not crushed;
we are perplexed
but not in despair;
we are persecuted
but not abandoned;
we are struck down
but not destroyed.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9 CSB
I've been thinking about injustice this week.
Paul is railing here against injustice.
It's easy to quickly go to the "victory" side of his writing here, the "not" side.
But there's something wrong when people are "afflicted in every way".
There's something wrong when people are "struck down".
There's something wrong when people have to stand up to persecution because it's unjust, there's something wrong when we feel anxious.
Whatever the injustices are that you're facing, this passage tells you that you're not alone. Whether it's the injustice of cancer or Illness, of abuse, bullying, of the death of someone you love, of systems that seem to work against the very people they're supposed to help, the injustice of what people do to others, the list can get very big very quickly, yet, yet we are not without hope, not without resources today, and our future hope can never be shifted, never be lost, because nothing can separate us from God's love.
Nothing.
