Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife. Proverbs 17:1 NIV The "house full of feasting" seems like a place of plenty, of surplus, of wealth. A place where the fridge is always full of food. A place where there is a fridge. Compared to the place where there's only bread - and even that isn't fresh. Better this place with peace, than the place of surplus with strife. Is the subtle message here that in the striving for the surplus, the place of plenty, in that striving we lose our peace? We lose what's really important? It's not about having plenty or not, but the life we live. A life full of strife, or one of peace. #choose #better #peace #peacemakers #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon
Friday! Proverbs! Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife. Proverbs 17:1 NIV What's your favourite feast? We all have one...and I wonder if my favourite is more about the memory of the feeling it evokes rather than the food itself? But this proverb is not about the food, but about the heart. Our favourite food, the feast, is no good to anyone if there's strife, unresolved conflict, hurt, enmity. These are issues of the heart. The joy of the feast goes when we are not at peace with one another. We are called to do whatever we can to be peacemakers. It's not always possible, but we're called to try To choose "Better" #choose #better #peace #peacemakers #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon
Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit." John 20:21-22 NIV Ressurection day and there's 3 things that Jesus gives (3 gifts?); Peace Commissioning And the Holy Spirit Jesus breathed on them. An echo of God breathing life in Genesis 2, here is Life 2.0, ressurection life, life with God in a whole new way And now, the apostles are ready to go, to be the genesis of the New Testament church, to be God's representatives in the world. And Jesus gives us those 3 things too... peace, work to do, and the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us. We don't just go to church, we are the church, Jesus' representatives in and to the world... #peace #senttoserve #life2.0 #breathofGod #thechurch
Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." John 20:21 NIV Peace. Peace from knowing that Jesus is who he said he is, peace from knowing that everything he said is true... And then. A commissioning. A call to action. Jesus came not to be served, but to serve, and his team are here being sent out in the same way. And so are we. Sent to serve. Peace first. Then sent. When Jesus gave his team the example of serving by washing their feet, he didn't go across town or around the world, but started with those closest to him. That's where it starts, love and serve those in your house first. #peace #peacebewithyou #sent #senttoserve #lovepeople
Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." John 20:21 NIV There are times when we just need to keep hearing these words from Jesus... Peace be with you. The peace that comes from the ressurected Jesus. The peace that comes from knowing that no matter who we are, no matter what we've done, we've been atoned for, the price has been paid, once for all, once for all time. The door to that peace wirh God is Jesus, and we just have to step thru. He was with them, in the room, and said "Peace be with you" Listen for His voice today, may we all hear those words from the ressurected King... #peace #peacebewithyou #theressurectedkingisressurectingme
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" John 20:19 NIV In a moment everything changed. Jesus was back. Back from the dead. It may be April 1, but this was no joke...the world will never be the same again... "Peace be with you" No longer fear, no longer do you need to lock yourselves away, in the end, no one can really hurt you because I am who I said I was... Peace. The word here for peace is "eirene" from the root word to join. It's about wholeness. All  the essential parts are joined together; peace. Thru the ressurection of Jesus all the essential parts (God & his people) are now joined together...peace. Peace with God that is only available thru the ressurected King. This morning, Jesus says to you and me, and anyone who puts their faith in him, "peace be with you" #s...
Friday! Proverbs! A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. Proverbs 14:30 NIV Eleanor Roosevelt is credited with this quote: "Comparison is the thief of joy" The 10th commandment is "do not covet". And here, the writer says envy will eat us up from the inside...it mangles up our thoughts, drives us to make poor decisions, and eventually ruins our health. So what's the antidote? The heart at peace. Where does that come from? Love. Love that says "you're so valuable, so precious to me that I died for you" Love that says it's you I love, not some version of you that society or other people might say is better...the transforming love of the Gospel. And that brings peace. The peace that allows, more than allows, strengthens us to be genuinely happy for the success of others (however that looks) and not want to grasp it for ourselves... Knowing we are dearly loved. #antidote #peace
So I confronted the nobles of Judah. "Why are you profaning the Sabbath in this evil way?" I asked. "Wasn't it just this sort of thing that your ancestors did that caused our God to bring all this trouble upon us and our city? Now you are bringing even more wrath upon Israel by permitting the Sabbath to be desecrated in this way!" Nehemiah 13:17-18 NLT They'd forgotten that God had put these rules in place so that they would flourish. The sabbath was about rest, regaining shalom, peace in the life of the individual and the community, living out their belief in God. And it had become just like any other day to do business. They'd allowed the culture and practices of the world around them to weaken their devotion to God. I wonder how I do that? Allowed the measures of success of the world become more important than God's? Who really has first place? #shalom #peace #loveGod
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. John 20:19-20 NIV Fear is replaced by joy! What does Jesus say? Peace be with you. You're free now from the concerns and worries, free from fear that was keeping you locked in here. Free from fear of the consequences of others actions...because victory has been won. Death has been swallowed up by love. See my hands? The price has been paid. By love. The word peace here has a meaning of wholeness, when all the essential parts are together... My peace bought with a price, brings wholeness. #easter #eastersunday #worship #thisisourGod #peace #wholeness #hope
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side. Psalm 3:5-6 NIV Peace Even though. David's son was turning the people against him so that he could gain power...David would literally have had enemies everywhere. Even though his world was falling apart, those he loved and trusted were plotting against him, he still slept in peace. Because the Lord sustained him. No matter what we face, what the enemy in your life is...the hurts of the past, broken relationships, disease, pain, loss...fear of the future...whatever goes in that box for you - hand it over to the One who sustains. Ask Him for peace. Rest Restoration Even though... #thisisourGod #sunday #worship #peace
At about that same time Jesus left the house and sat on the beach. In no time at all a crowd gathered along the shoreline... Matthew 13:1 MSG OK so Monday morning may not be the best time to talk about sitting on the beach...but...that's what Jesus did. Had some time out. Some time alone. Would've turned his phone off... watched the waves for a bit... This time people turned up (& Jesus full of grace made room for them, changed whatever he had planned to meet their need) but if Jesus took some time to sit on the beach then we do to. Maybe that's a few minutes in prayer, a quiet walk, some quiet and solitude that you can carve out in your day...maybe even in the midst of the noise. Maybe it's true re-creation. Real rest. (Without feeling guilty) May today you find a few moments to "sit on the beach" today. #peace #restforyoursoul #restoration
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us... And he will be called...Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 NLT Peace Peace here is "Shalom" Shalom means completeness, soundness, welfare, peace. And Jesus is the prince of this. Have a think on those words... Complete Sound Welfare Peace This is one of the attributes of Jesus and what he's about in relation to us... When we greet someone with shalom, we're interested in them, how they really are, how we might be able to help And when we say goodbye with shalom we bless them with the knowledge that we care...that we love. And this is Jesus. #namesofJesus #peace #restore
Don't worry about anything; instead, pray... Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand... Philippians 4:6-7 nlt Peace here is the word "eirene" (to join, tie together into a whole) - properly, wholeness, i.e. when all essential parts are joined together; peace (God's gift of wholeness). This promised peace is more than not being anxious, but points us to that full and final restoration that we will one day have, but God wants us to have a taste of now. Wholeness, when everything we are works together in the way it was designed...what we were created for... #peace #restore
Galatians 5:22-23 ESV But the fruit of the Spirit is...peace...against such things there is no law Peace.  Not against the law. Yet...in politics, in the middle east, where war seems to be a requirement, in history, the crusades where it was convert or die, the colonisation of parts of the world...all the way back to Cain & Abel...peace in our hearts is the problem It's a fruit of the Spirit, so it comes from God Knowing who God is Knowing His love for us That he made a way for us to be right with Him That He has good things for us to do to bring restoration...to be His hands & feet no matter how big or small that might be Choosing to live Kingdom values... #loveGod #lovepeople #stepstopeace #fruitoftheSpirit #peace
Ephesians 4:1, 3 NLT ...I ( Paul ), a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God...Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. This passage is all about us and the community we have in the church Make every effort. No half hearted, do things out of duty stuff, but really work hard at unity. Whether it's the church you are in now or find yourself in in the future. And it's not a job for the Pastors or Elders but for all of us. How can i contribute to unity and peace in my church? #makeeveryeffort #unity #peace #worthyofourcalling
Ephesians 2:15-16 NLT He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups. Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death. Do you want to put an end to conflict? Countries, ethnic groups, families, individuals...you won't do it by rules and regulations, but only when everyone submits themselves to Jesus, when we all accept what Jesus did for us, when we have a shared value system, that is when peace will come. It's only through Jesus work will peace on earth finally prevail...and by getting more in tune with God and his values, can we as individuals end our hostility to others... #lovepeople #peaceonearth
John 14:27 NLT “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. #promises #peace #nothingtofear
This was the first verseoftheday from one year ago. God's Word is just as relevant and powerful in 1 year, 10 years, 1000 years... You are dearly loved. Philippians 4:6-7 NLT Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
