Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord's commands and decrees blamelessly. But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old.  ...But the angel said to him: Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Luke 1:6-7, 13NIV Faithful. Old. Suffering. Heard Not words we usually associate with Christmas. Zach & Liz were old. They'd spent their lives serving God, doing what was right and good. And they were suffering. Children were a sign of Gods blessing and important in the culture. And they had none. They were second class. Looked down on. Them When everyone else is successful, they were not. Not. Yet they remained faith full. They served God And their prayers were heard. Heard Even when we don't think God hears us, this Christmas story tells us something different. God does hear our prayers. Zach & Liz chose to remain faith full for decades even when God didn...
I went to Jerusalem, and after staying there three days I set out during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. There were no mounts with me except the one I was riding on. Nehemiah 2:11-12 NIV He'd had a report of the problem. God had called him to mission. Placed a desire in his heart to make a difference. Rather than jump in, make a lot of noise when he arrived, he went quietly to have a good look for himself. He didn't rush to judgement or action, flash his letters from the king, but quietly and humbly went to work How often have I just jumped in with a solution? I haven't taken the time to look, to listen...what was Nehe doing for 3 days in Jerusalem? My guess is he was asking questions... listening... #nehemiah #faithful #brave #thoughtful #patient
"...And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the royal park, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?" And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests. Nehemiah 2:8 NIV Nehe was faithful, and brave. His heart was stirred for this project for his people. And here he really pushed the envelope...he went all in for the cause. Sometimes we just have to ask. Maybe it's for partners, helpers, support, (in this case building materials) for our ministry, mission, the thing God has stirred our heart about. Ask. Be brave. And when he got the result, the glory went to God. #faithful #sunday #worship
Then the king said to me, "What are you requesting?" So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said to the king, "If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' graves, that I may rebuild it." Nehemiah 2:4-5 ESV Faithful and Brave. Nehe had been working for the king for ages... years... & praying about this for months - faithful. Suddenly the opportunity was in front of him - & what did he do? Prayed again. Faithful And then he jumped in. All in. Sometimes we need to be brave. Sticking our necks out. Taking a risk for what God has placed on our hearts. #nehemiah #faithful #brave
It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High,  proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night... Psalm 92:1-2 NIV In the morning proclaim God's love for you...and at night His faithfulness... what a way to choose to bookend our days! Start with no matter what today holds God loves you, He's chosen you...and end with how faithful...review your day and reflect on God at work in your heart, responses, maybe someone you met, some encouragement you got, direction, guidance, or simply knowing God is With us... Love in the morning Faithfulness at night Not a bad way to choose to live...and in between, make some music... #thelongchoosing #proclaim #makesomemusic #faithful #psalms #psalm92
It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High,  proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night... Psalm 92:1-2 NIV Last night we were at a 30th Wedding anniversary party & this verse was shared with the emphasis on faithfulness...the choosing every day for 30 years reflects God's choosing to love us every day... And the commitment these two people made to each other about the next season of their lives reflects God's on going commitment for our future... Jesus is preparing a place for You :) He's committed to our future and is completely faithful to deliver on that. #dearlyloved #faithful #sunday #worship #thisisourGod #gooddaytosinghispraises
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful... 2 Timothy 4:7 NLT Sneaking in another sports verse while the olympics are everywhere... Paul reflects on his life like a sporting contest - an Olympic event - he kept going as hard as he could for the sake of the gospel, of God's kingdom for as long as he could...and at the end remained faithful. That doesn't mean perfect, always got it right, never made a mistake...but used the resources and gifts he had to spread the gospel and encourage others...despite his physical disability, despite being in prison, beatings, shipwrecked... he remained faithful. In our journey, whatever that looks like, will we finish well...and at the end  remain faithful? #fight #run #faithful
But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus...he was ill and almost died...welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life... Philippians 2:25, 27, 29, 30 Epaphroditus pt4 If you think being a christian will shelter you from sickness or trouble then think again. Not only was he very sick, but risked his life in some way. And Paul tells us to honour people who put it all on the line for God's kingdom...so support your missionaries, pastors, &  those who step up into the front line for their fairh, because it can be a dangerous, lonely, place... #faith #faithful
In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah... his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord's commands and decrees blamelessly. But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old. Luke 1:5-7 NIV Good people with all the right background...yet... life hadn't worked out as they'd planned. Couldn't have kids, which was a huge social stigma at that time. Yet they remained faithful in their service to God despite their circumstances. Yet just around the corner they get to be part of the greatest story of all time... Lord help me to stay faithful to You even when life isn't working out for me #faithful #christmas
