Friday!! Proverbs 15.26.niv The Lord detests the thoughts of the wicked, but gracious words are pure in his sight. Gracious words...not sure that my words are always that gracious...it's so easy to be critical, condemning or complaining...& it comes so naturally & easily that I just don't notice it So today is self awareness day & l'm going to listen to my own words and listen for how much grace comes out of my mouth...(and in my txts, posts, comments, chats, snaps...) Are you up for it? #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon #keepyourpathsstraight#
Friday!! Time for some wisdom... Proverbs 15.22.nlt Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success. We think we have all the answers, but this Proverb says ask. Get some advice, & don't just listen to the first person. Why are we so afraid to ask for help? (could it be pride?) We all need help sometime... When we have major things going on, big decisions to make, just ask. It can be easy to ask people who we know will agree with us...but will you ask someone who will challenge? be provocative? Wisdom says get some advice.  #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon #keepyourpathsstraight
Friday already!! Time for the next Proverb... Proverbs 15:19 AMP The way of the sluggard is overgrown with thorns [it pricks, lacerates, and entangles him], but the way of the righteous is plain and raised like a highway How often have I tried the easy way and been caught out...or been that wee bit lazy and put off hard tasks in favour of fun or the easy...only to run out of time or energy to finish what needed to be done How often have I not chosen what seems to be the hard route that God has espoused... forgiveness...kindness...otherness...only to find that my "easier way" really was full of thorns... Choose the plain highway of God's word...it's not always easy, but like a raised highway, you know what the road is like #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon #keepyourpathsstraight #choose
Friday! Proverbs 15:10 NLT Whoever abandons the right path will be severely disciplined; whoever hates correction will die. Woah there...discipline! Correction! No thanks. I just want love and acceptance thanks...so what's this about? We make choices and there are consequences...and if we step outside God's design for us...eg the Bible is full of "otherness" love your neighbour, love your enemies even, forgive...if I choose selfishness, me, mine, revenge, then maybe I'm living outside God's design...and the consequences may be loneliness, bitterness...so even when forgiveness is hard, loving others is tough going, don't abandon the right path. Stick with God's truth & grace will prevail... #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon #keepyourpathsstraight
Friday! Time for the next Proverb... Proverbs 10 v13 You'll find wisdom on the lips of a person with insight, but the shortsighted needs a slap in the face. Sometimes you've just gotta love The Message...The shortsighted seems to be only seeing my world, how things affect me...if I throw my rubbish out the window of my car it gets it away from me, but messes up the world for you and everyone else. Slap. God's story is all about the preciousness of others. He loved us We should love others Are we people of insight?  Is wisdom something we are known for? #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon #keepyourpathsstraight
Friday!!! Before we have a look at today's Proverb... Gen 1v1 John 1v1 John 1v14 John 3v16 :) Proverbs10:9 ESV Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out. We get to choose whether we do what's right, or what is expedient, so easy to justify our actions when we know in our hearts that we are not walking in integrity...I want to walk securely, all the time, in every part of my life...on Sunday, Monday, Saturday night...when I'm with people, or on my own... Walking is all about looking forward, putting the past behind...from here on...press on... #walksecurely #walkwithintegrity #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon #keepyourpathsstraight
Friday!!! Hope you have had a great week :) Proverbs 10:2 ESV Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death. How true is this...have you ever gained from doing something illegal? Stealing?  Ripping someone off? We see high profile fraudsters going to jail, sports match fixing, doping...but at a personal level...if we gain something in the wrong way, it's always a bit tainted and doesn't deliver the satisfaction we were looking for...and that is compared with righteousness...with doing the very best we can to live work and play in an honest truthful fair way...even if the "profit" is not as good... #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon #keepyourpathsstraight
Friday! We have been right through Proverbs 29,  so will start in Proverbs 10:1 ESV The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother. A lot of Proverbs is about comparing wisdom and foolishness. Wise choices and poor choices. Often we don't think about the impact of our choices on others (in this case parents). Most of us have a desire to make our parents proud of us (although sadly some parents don't make that easy) Wise choices, following the path of wisdom...where does that come from? It's often referred to as the way of the Lord. Living out everyday God's values and truth. His word is truth. The beginning of wisdom. #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon #keepyourpathsstraight
It's Friday! (just in case you hadn't noticed!) This is the last proverb in ch 29 Proverbs 29:27 ESV An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, but one whose way is straight is an abomination to the wicked. What is with the language here? So strong...we are seeing this in the middle east as groups believe that they are righteous use that to justify violence towards others...but often in the Bible someone who's ways are straight are straight in the ways of the Lord. If you are a Christian and living that out you won't be universally loved. Just sayin. #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon #keepyourpathsstraight
