And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." And he believed the Lord , and he counted it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:5-6 ESV What was God doing? Come outside Abe. Have a look. Look. And wonder. Wonder about the promise. Wonder about the beauty. Wonder about what you can see...and what you can't Wonder at the hands behind it all Wonder that I've called you. Wonder that I love you. The night sky was there the previous night, and the next night, but Abram really saw what was in front of him that night...what's in front of us that we've lost our sense of wonder? That points us to God but we've lost sight of it? Maybe it's the stars, creation, people, new life, music, art, design, colour... What's in front of us? #wonder #life #promise
This is what we will do to them: We will let them live, so that God's wrath will not fall on us for breaking the oath we swore to them. They continued, "Let them live, but let them be woodcutters and water carriers in the service of the whole assembly." So the leaders promise to them was kept. Joshua 9:20-21 NIV Our God is a covenant God. He takes his promises seriously and expects us to be the same. Here God's people were learning that lesson. How am I at keeping my covenants? My promises? What am I known for? Do I reflect God's character here? And there's a leadership lesson...keeping our integrity, our promises, but finding a solution that works... #joshua #leadershiplessons #promises #covenant #covenantGod
But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the assembly had sworn an oath to them by the Lord, the God of Israel. The whole assembly grumbled against the leaders, but all the leaders answered, "We have given them our oath by the Lord , the God of Israel, and we cannot touch them now." Joshua 9:18-19 NIV Josh's team was deceived (because they didn't ask God first) & made a deal,  commitment, a covenant. There was public dissent. Pressure. The people were unhappy, but the leadership not only stuck to their promise, but stuck together. Not just a practical leadership lesson whether that's at home, at work, at church, but also a picture of how God stuck with his promises, his covenant, even though it hurt, even though it cost him. Jesus stayed on the cross for me, when he could easily have walked away... #joshua #leadershiplessons #promises #covenant
Matthew 11:28-30 NLT part 2 Then Jesus said, Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls Yoke. a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart that they are to pull. Jesus is asking us to join with him, to work with him, as we go about the ordinary day-to-day stuff of life. He asks us to let him teach us. And he'll do it gently. A process that takes time as we walk with him, talk, read the Word, & as we experience his gentle encouragement, we will get that deep inner peace. #wordsofJesus #promises #rest #restforyoursoul
Matthew 11:28-30 NLT Then Jesus said, Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Got some stuff you are carrying? Feeling weighed down,  like you're running in mud? Or is there someone you know who is feeling like that? Jesus says come to me. So take him at his word. Talk with him, be honest about your burdens, and ask him for rest. #wordsofJesus #promises #rest
Acts 2:38-39 NLT Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles —all who have been called by the Lord our God.” #promises
John 10:27-29 NLT My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.  I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me,  for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. #promises #eternallife #alwaysinGodshand

1 Peter 1:24-25 NLT <24 > As the Scriptures say, "People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades.  <25 > But the word of the Lord remains forever." And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. Words of The Lord are greater than words of men. No matter what you are facing today...its good to remember what is permanent and what is only temporary... #Godspromises #thanksEmily
Romans 8:38-39 NLT And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. #favepromises #thanksmatt
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him. Psalm 103:11 I love how this verse gives a metaphor for how limitless God's love is for us:-) #promises #limitless #thankslisa
