All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-7 NIV "so that" God's word is not just about knowledge or knowing God's moral law, or making us better people...it's "so that" we're equipped for the things God has for us to do! We get ourselves equipped for work or business or sport, and even for recreation. We train, buy equipment, study... prepare. God's word is the equipping place for the 2 things God has for us to do: Loving Him Loving People He's made us unique, and we have a unique place in the world. Why pray for those who give us a hard time for being a christian? So that we might become more like our heavenly father. Kind of easy to say if all is going well and you aren't being hated or bullied or attacked...the key words are "so that" - Jesus doesn't ask us to do this as a punishment or sacrificial or religious thing...it's about us becoming more like the character of God.
