The word here is "shabar" and it's not a noun that would describe a state something is in (eg the bowl is broken) but a verb - to break, break in pieces. Our heart is not a static thing that is "broken" and then "fixed". It's a living thing. It's us. Who we are. Who I am. And we are being broken. Into pieces By the world Our own sin The sin of others The lies of the enemy Sometimes by God - we even sing about it sometimes ("break my heart for what breaks yours") And it can be broken for others.
