Friday! Proverbs! Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge. Proverbs 14:26 NIV A fortress doesn't mean there's no enemy. That there'll be no battles, no storms, no seiges or trouble. It does mean when those things hit we have somewhere to go... We know that nothing can separate us from God's love. Once we're in his family, we won't be kicked out. And that faith should be visible to others - in this proverb it's children, but it could as easily be our friends, flatmates etc, when they need shelter, when  they need refuge, they see in us a place to run to... #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon #refuge #shelterinthestorm

Ps 27v1 The Lord is my light and my salvation: Whom shall I fear? We place our security in all kinds of things... The things we own. Money and investments Church Ourselves and our abilities. Or maybe you have no security and your life is a cycle of concern, fear & dread. The psalmist introduces us to the worlds best security system. The rest of heart and mind that we seek, lasting security, & resiliant hope are only found when we embrace the astounding reality of who you are as a child of God. Psalm 27:5 ESV For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; We live in a world where disease, death, deceit, suffering, loss,disappointment, violence, & war exist. None of which were part of God's original intention. People's motivations are not what God intended. No relationship is free of disappointment, no institution totally free of corruption, no location free of difficulty...we are all touched by the fall. The only way to navigate in this broken world is by the light of God's word, and the enabling power of Gods grace. In our trouble God has not left us alone. He comes to us armed with transforming grace and liberating wisdom. Jesus. Psalm 27:12 ESV ...for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence. This is what sin has done to our world. We don't love our neighbour, we are jealous of them, they are our enemy, or we just ignore them. We don't love God with our whole heart. We put creation in his place. The temorary pleasures of this world. Sin causes us to set up our own little kingdom with me as the king. And when others don't do what i want i rage against them. Sometimes the quiet rage of bitterness Sometimes the rage of angry words and condemnation Sometimes physical & violence. This is what sin does to us all. We breathe out violence... So how come there is any peace? Any cooperation? Any love? Grace. Against the backdrop of sin, grace shines. Grace that restrains, grace that blesses. Teach me your way, O Lord and lead me on a level path because of my enemies Psalm 27:11 I know that I want God's wisdom, but how often do I actually pray this prayer? Teach me your way? Maybe we did this once or twice in our life...or we dug deep into God's word for a time... His wisdom is so deep and so vast that we need more than a lifetime to mine it's treasures.
