Give thanks to the Lord , for he is good!  His faithful love  endures forever.  ... It is better  to take refuge  in the Lord  than to trust in people.  It is better  to take refuge  In the Lord  than to trust in princes. Psalms 118:1, 8-9 NLT People People in power Sometimes they're simply not trustworthy, not worthy of your trust.  And sometimes people are, we are, I am, a fallible, fallen, imperfect person... This song is about choosing better. Choosing God as our place of refuge. His Word His Spirit His person, the true prince, Jesus, He is our refuge, it's his body that takes the attacks of the enemy, it's his grace that absorbs our sin, his love that guides us in what is right, his light that leads us home. Choose Jesus as your place of refuge. He is not fallible Not fallen Not imperfect He is the place, the person, to run to. #better #choosebetter #psalms #psalm118 #refuge
The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale. Proverbs 18:11 NIV There's always someone who will look at you & me as the "rich"... Maybe it's financial, or maybe it's opportunity, or education, appearance, health, family...no matter what there's going to be someone in the world who'll look at me as the rich. Someone who'll be looking "up" at me. And in what would they see me putting my faith? What would they say my fortified city is? Where my hope is? What would they see? Gets me thinking this morning about who my faith is in...we sing a song sometimes that has a line when "all is stripped away", take me back to a heart of worship. The walls I rely on The fortified city It's found in the "King of all worth", the only one who can hold the weight of my worship... #jesusatthecentre #run #refuge #fortifiedcity #proverbs #somethingtochewon
Friday! Proverbs! The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale. Proverbs 18:11 NIV It's easy to look at the wealthy (as I'm pretty sure Bill Gates is not reading this) 'cos there's always someone you look at as being "the wealthy". Right? It's the person with the more or the bigger farm/ house/ business/ _________ "They" are putting their hope in their stuff. And I wouldn't do that. Would I? No. No. Maybe Just a bit. A fortified city is our place of refuge. Why do I need a place of refuge? What am I running from that I'm afraid of? Maybe my reasons are different than yours, but it's the place we go to feel safe. To feel accepted. To know we are loved The person in this proverb is putting their faith in something. Something that cannot bear the weight of what they need. Our faith, our place of refuge, where we run, the only place that can bear that weight, is a person #...
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea... Psalm 46: NIV 1-2 Part of the earth gave way on Friday. The illusion that we were safe from horrendous acts of mass violence. Against the innocent. People praying. Vulnerable. And it can make us fearful. The psalmist sings this song... In the time of trouble, in the place of fear, choose to trust. Trouble Fear Trust Some would put trust in walls, security, barriers, strength. Trust in God. He is the same in the day of trouble, of crumbling earth as in the day of sunshine. Trust Even though Even though we hurt, struggle, wrestle Even though our hearts ache for others loss. Even though. Trust. He is our refuge #refuge #trust #trustGod #eventhough
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2 NIV This song continues and in the middle of this verse is; "In whom I take refuge" There's the "in whom" part - put your trust in the Living God, revealed in His Word, and in The Word - Jesus It's the action here that's important today... "...I take refuge" This is not a sitting around, sitting back thing but a choosing, an action, a step. Today I'm going to choose to take refuge in God I'm going to choose to stand on the Rock of his salvation I'm going to go to the fortress of His love for me And there I will look for my deliverer. There are lots of things I could look to today, but I'm going to choose my place of refuge in the God who saves. #psalms #psalm18 #refuge #choose
Friday! Proverbs! Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge. Proverbs 14:26 NIV A fortress doesn't mean there's no enemy. That there'll be no battles, no storms, no seiges or trouble. It does mean when those things hit we have somewhere to go... We know that nothing can separate us from God's love. Once we're in his family, we won't be kicked out. And that faith should be visible to others - in this proverb it's children, but it could as easily be our friends, flatmates etc, when they need shelter, when  they need refuge, they see in us a place to run to... #proverbs #wisdom #somethingtochewon #refuge #shelterinthestorm
