For we are not proclaiming ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus's sake. For God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of God's glory in the face of Jesus Christ.

I wonder what was going on in the church for Paul to write that first bit?
Celebrity pastors?
People making church all about them?
There's something astray in the heart...and Paul takes us back to Genesis, to the light that emerged from the dark, is the same light that shines in our hearts, and somehow finds its way from our heart to Jesus' face. 
There's an untangling from the selfish ambition of verse 4, and an entwining with God's creative endeavour and the light of that finding its way through us to Jesus in verse 5. 
This gives an inkling of what we were made for, and what is to come...

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,  for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth.
