Then he said,
"Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."
And he said to him,
"Truly I tell you,
today
you
will
be
with me
in paradise."
Luke 23:42-43 CSB
The scene is the crucifixion of three men, Jesus and 2 criminals.
This man as he is nailed to a cross, in the process of dying, recognises his own sin, & recognises Jesus for who He really is.
And rather than attack Jesus as the first man does, he reaches out to Jesus.
This man whose crimes earned him death on a Roman cross, who's future was a matter of hours, who literally could do nothing for Jesus, simply sought forgiveness.
And this is love
Love that does not measure what we've done or what we can bring, it's Love that is interested in our heart.
Yes he still had to live with the consequences of his choices and actions, but his eternity shifted in that moment.
This is the anti-lie when I think my sin is too bad, too big, too ugly, or when I think I need to be good enough for God,
or do more to be accepted,
to be acceptable
This man literally could do nothing for Jesus.
Yet was welcomed in.
This is love.
