If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them,
"Go in peace, be warmed and filled"
without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?
James 2:15-16 ESV
"And one of you says to them..."
James is writing to Christians.
Who are together at the time.
So they're in church.
Together.
And they meet someone, in church, and know enough about them that they don't have proper clothing.
And know enough that they aren't eating well
And "one of you says".
Is this the leader who says this? Like a representative attitude for all.
No I think this is about anyone, any one of you, because we are the church, and we all, each of us, represent Jesus.
We can't hide behind our church position or a leaders position, this is about any one of us...
Me.
Maybe I've never said these exact words.
Maybe I've said "I'll pray for you" and never done it
Or "that's sad" and never taken a step towards that sadness
Or "that's tough". But done nothing to help
James is addressing the heart.
My heart
And my heart represents and affects yours.
The church.

...four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn't bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus... Mark 2:3-4 NLT Great account of inventiveness and determination to get their friend to see Jesus. Love this. Do you wonder about the back story? Are these the same 4 people who bring this man food? Take him to the toilet every day. Clean him up. Does he live with one of them? Are they family? Are there whole families or groups of people in the background who have supported and cared for this man? A group of children who grew up seeing their parents love in action? Probably. Healing Help Hope These things are found in community. These 4 guys are the heroes here. The upfront people. One day it will be interesting to see who the background heroes are. #loveinaction #community #inthistogether #walkingeachotherhome #gospelofmark
