And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself.
Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt.
1 Samuel 18:1-4 NIV
There are more echoes here...
Jesus tells us to love our neighbour as ourselves.
Jon loved like that.
Would I, do I, really give up anything significant for others?
Do I just squeeze in a bit of service, squeeze out a bit of goodness towards others.
Jon gave his robe.
And even his sword, bow and belt. These must've been significant and valuable items.
The sword or bow of the son of the King may we'll have been a one-off hand made special.
Replaceable, but Irreplaceable
This covenant is a one way obligation.
David gives nothing.
He just accepts the gift.
That's grace.
The one that sticks in my mind is his tunic.
Why's that there? It's not valuable.
It's personal.
Jesus love is personal.
Towards us
You and me.

Not only that but Jesus was somehow the agent of everything that has been made in the physical, social, and spiritual. Jesus is at the centre of it all. Walking around Jesus. Cooking fish for breakfast Jesus. Heart aching as he ...
