After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.
"The time has come" ,he said.
"The kingdom of God has come near.
Repent and believe the good news!"
Mark 1:14-15 NIV
This thing, the kingdom, that you've been looking for, waiting for, for generations, it's close.
It has drawn close to you.
It's right here.
Wrapped up in this very ordinary looking person.
The Kingdom is here
A Kingdom has power and authority, yet it's No1 guy so far is now in jail.
Already we're seeing that this Kingdom is not what everyone expected or wanted.
And then there's that word that jars us today;
Repent.
But the word Mark uses here means to "change one's mind or purpose".
Change your thinking
Change your heart direction
Your purpose.
What's really important
What really matters
It's as if Jesus is saying to me this morning;
"the Kingdom is near,
where do you need to change your thinking,
your purpose?"
