Friday! Proverbs!
The discerning sets his face toward wisdom, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.
Proverbs 17:24 ESV
Recently I realised that wisdom is not something we can just acquire, or "get" when I want some.
It's not like information.
Or knowledge.
And this Proverb catches a bit of that...it's a direction, an orientation.
Set your face in that direction.
If you want to be discerning.
Interesting question:
Do you want to be discerning?
I don't think anyone says "no" to that.
We may not want to be discerning about the same things...but discerning? That's a "yes" from me.
So I set my face towards wisdom.
What is that direction?
Proverbs also teaches that the knowing God is the beginning of wisdom
Jesus said if you know me, you know the Father.
So my direction is set
On a person
There's an every day choosing in this.
The pressure, noise, clamour of this world, the pull of our own hearts and minds can be immense.
"Set your face" is a daily choice...
