They still didn't get it, didynt realize that he was referring to the Father.
So Jesus tried again. "When you raise up the Son of Man, then you will know who I am - that I'm not making this up, but speaking only what the Father taught me.
The One who sent me stays with me.
He doesn't abandon me. He sees how much joy I take in pleasing him." When he put it in these terms, many people decided to believe.
John 8:27-30 MSG
Even Jesus struggles to be understood, to be believed.
Eventually more people "got" what he was about, but not everyone.
If you struggle to be understood, if you're not believed, you're in good company.
The thing with Jesus was that despite opposition, despite unbelief, he stayed on mission, stayed in tune with God.
In tune with God or the people around us?
The choice isn't often that stark, and who wants to be out of tune with the people in your family, in your community?
We all want acceptance.
Love.
With our Heavenly Father we are accepted.
Loved.
So we strive to be in tune with Him not to gain acceptance, not to be loved, but because He is God and has our allegiance.
And if some people don't get that, don't get us as a result, that's OK. Jesus didn't please everyone, and neither can we.
There's a freedom here in staying on mission :)
