For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, 
knowledge with self-control...
2 Peter 1:5-6 CSB
We've got our base of faith, and have added goodness 
knowledge
& today self-control.
It's self control that gets us up some mornings, that makes wise choices for our future, that puts off the old & puts on the new, that chooses light over dark, truth instead of lies, goodness, not evil.
It allows us to love.
It's self-control that gives, gives up, sacrifices.
It holds us back when our desires and wants threaten to take over 
It allows us to step towards the needs of others.
Love requires it, because love is a choice, an action, an orientation of our hearts that requires a reining in of me...
I need that self-control that is prompted by and empowered by God's Spirit.
Just think for a minute about what happens when people have no self-control, or choose not to exercise it. 
What an ingredient!

Genesis 15.8-18.ESV But he said O Lord God , how am I to know that I shall possess it? ...When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram... March 15 was the last day we looked at Abram's story...he was questioning God and this is God's response...sacrifices and smoke and fire and a covenant...a promise... Isn't that what we crave for sometimes? God, if only you'd just show me smoke & fire, a burning bush a sign, miracle, healing...then all my questions would disappear...all my doubts would be gone... 2moro we'll see Abram's response but I think God values our faith in spite of our questions and doubts. That we choose Him anyway #faith
