Then Mary took a pound of perfume, pure and expensive nard, anointed Jesuss feet...So the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot...said, Why wasnt this perfume sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?
Jesus answered,
"Leave her alone; she has kept it for the day of my burial. For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me."
John 12:3-8 CSB
Jesus seems to be replying directly to Judas, but there's also a message for Mary here. Mary knew where Jesus was heading...but it seems rather than wait to annoint his body after death, she chose to bless him in life.
Is there someone on your heart to encourage? To bless?
Don't wait.
If the Spirit is promoting, listen.
This is not about death or anticipating death, it's about life and encouraging one another in this life. Mary had saved something worth a years income to bless Jesus, and chose to do that in life.
In that action Judas's heart was exposed, Mary was blessed, and so was Jesus. With Mary's action of blessing, Jesus knew that someone in this world "got" him at a heart level, and we all need that.
We all need that.
