I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love.
I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God's mysterious plan, which is Christ himself.
In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2:1-3 NLT
It is love that knits people together.
It's love that encourages, the word here is "parakaleo" to make a call from close beside. To encourage someone is to be up close. We're in this together.
Then there's this picture of being knitted together. Something new is made by the intertwining of strands. This feels active, it's not something that was once and done, but this knitting together is an ongoing process.
We're in this together.
Whether it's joys or sorrow, struggles, success, fails or wins, we need one another to not place too much weight on either.
This fabric that is being made by the interweaving of our lives is not held together by success (or failure), by a building or a service, labouring together for a common cause, or even being in the same family, as good as all those things can be. It's love that ties us together, love that Jesus demonstrated, sacrificial, humble, grace-filled, other oriented, we-all-finish-together love.
