So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in him, being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude.
Colossians 2:6-7 CSB
What does "overflowing with gratitude" look like?
Do I do that?
Is that what a good Christian looks like?
I think the clue is found in two words; "continue to".
This is choosing.
Choosing to walk in Jesus.
Choosing to put our roots down into him.
Choosing to be established and grow in him.
That choosing takes thought and effort and from our thinking about who God is, what Jesus did and is doing, the living hope we hold, being thankful is an outcome, an overflow.
Have you ever sat with someone and said something like "I've been thinking about you and the example you've been/the things you've done/the input you've had in my life and I'm really grateful. Thanks."
That's "overflowing with gratitude".
It's never forced or fake and might never be said in public, but it does come from a heart that holds the other close.
As we choose to put our roots down into Jesus, gratitude will overflow.
