Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, the one Jesus had raised from the dead.
So they gave a dinner for him there;
Martha was serving them, and Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with him.
John 12:1-2 CSB
Sometimes the Bible is just so ordinary.
A good friend turned up at the house and we had dinner together. Martha cooked. Lazarus and Jesus talked.
Diary entry ends.
It's also ordinary serving. Ordinary hospitality.
Ordinary grace. Welcoming people in, sharing time and space, making them welcome.
(I do wonder what Lazarus and Jesus talked about tho, don't you?
You're not looking so good Lazarus
I feel like death warmed up lol)
We sometimes undervalue the (what may seem to be) ordinary kindness, ordinary hospitality, ordinary grace. Not only is it what we are called to do, but for many people it's outside their experience to be invited to share a meal, to have their story heard, to be loved and welcomed in.
May we see beauty and goodness in the ordinary this week.
