Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
And Jesus said to them, "Follow me..."
Mark 1:16-18 ESV
This almost seems random, could've been anybody
These guys weren't the only fishermen in the area at the time.
The word used here for "saw" is "horao";
I see, look upon, experience, perceive, discern
Mark described what I would see, 2 men working.
Jesus could see beneath that.
We so easily see the external and think we know about someone.
What would I have seen? If I was looking for people to teach about the Kingdom that I was launching, looking for people in who in 3 short years could take this vision, this hope for the world, this history changing, life changing, culture shifting personal yet global message that heaven has invaded earth and nothing is going to be the same again and successfully take it to the world.
Literally the hope of the world will be in their hearts and hands.
A couple of ordinary people
Just like us
But Jesus could see
And He sees us
Discerns
Knows we are capable of being His hands and His heart in this world.

...four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn't bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus... Mark 2:3-4 NLT Great account of inventiveness and determination to get their friend to see Jesus. Love this. Do you wonder about the back story? Are these the same 4 people who bring this man food? Take him to the toilet every day. Clean him up. Does he live with one of them? Are they family? Are there whole families or groups of people in the background who have supported and cared for this man? A group of children who grew up seeing their parents love in action? Probably. Healing Help Hope These things are found in community. These 4 guys are the heroes here. The upfront people. One day it will be interesting to see who the background heroes are. #loveinaction #community #inthistogether #walkingeachotherhome #gospelofmark
