It's something that someone who cares for you has worked for or developed or owned, and has kept it for you.
Named you as the recipient.
They were thinking about you.
Thinking about you in advance.
God was thinking of you from before time and has something for you. 
Not because of what we've acheived, but because we're united with Jesus. Connected to him.
We're:
Seen
Known
Chosen
Adopted
Redeemed
Forgiven
And inheritors of something from God. 
Because we're on His mind.
