He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord .
Proverbs 17:15 ESV
I do justify the wicked.
Because I so easily justify my own thoughts and actions
I do condemn the innocent. Quick to blame
So that makes me an "abomination to the Lord"
It's sin.
And try as I might I just can't get rid of it all.
And yet.
God loves me
Adopted into his family
(have you ever considered the power of adoption? To say to someone "join our family, we love you not becuase you were born here, because we choose to love you)
There's only one place that these things are reconciled.
Only one place they make sense.
At the Cross.
It's there that my sin and God's love smash together.
It's there that Jesus became an "abomination to the Lord", not for his sin, but for mine.
It's at the Cross that God's love made a way. Became the way.
Its at the Cross where Grace prevailed.
And my hope resides.
God's crazy, reckless love smashed into sin and death.
This is the real Christmas story. Forget the tinsel.
At Christmas, God entered the story...to go to the Cross

Colossians 1:15-16 NLT OK so this is an English translation of a letter Paul wrote to a church 2,000 years ago, but does it feel like Paul is wrestling with words and ideas to try and capture all of who Jesus is, of who God is, of how does it work that the walking around Jesus was also there before the beginning of the beginning of everything we can see and touch and know. Not only that but Jesus was somehow the agent of everything that has been made in the physical, social, and spiritual. Jesus is at the centre of it all. Walking around Jesus. Cooking fish for breakfast Jesus. Heart aching as he ...
