Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him."
King Herod was deeply disturbed when he heard this, as was everyone in Jerusalem.
Matthew 2:1-3 NLT
King Herod was deeply disturbed.
And so was everyone in Jerusalem.
I wonder if they were disturbed for the same reason as the news spread that a king had been born?
Herod was already a king, had all the power, yet the news of a baby really got to him.
Could it be that he'd be the one toppled by a new king of the people he ruled over?
And what of the people of Jerusalem? Were they deeply disturbed becuase there was a chance that they would see Herod and the power of Rome overthrown in their lifetime?
Hope was rising, change is coming, freedom, peace, prosperity, could it be that these things would be restored with a new king?
A king who had been prophesied, looked for, waited on, and there had been others who'd faked it and failed, could it be that this is the one?
The messiah?
The one who would set us free?
Jesus disturbed everyone.
I wonder what he needs to, or wants to, disturb in me today?
