He answered them,
"Pick me up and throw me into the sea so that it will calm down for you, for I know that I'm to blame for this great storm that is against you."
Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to get back to dry land, but they couldn't because the sea was raging against them more and more.
Jonah 1:12-13 CSB
This is a wonderful passage because it speaks to the character and heart of the sailors.
They were going to do everything in their power to save Jonah.
He wasn't even family, or their friend, he was a fare paying passenger when claimed to be the cause of all their trouble, yet they weren't OK with tossing him overboard.
They worked as hard as they could to do what they could to save Jonah.
How hard am I prepared to work to do what I can to save others?
Who is in my waka who needs help?
These guys were also doing their job, and for many fighting for others, advocating for others, caring for others is part of your job. Maybe there's some inspiration here for you.
"Nevertheless" these sailors were going to fight for Jonah.
Nevertheless, I'm fighting for _____ today.
