"Truly I tell you, anyone who believes has eternal life.
I am the bread of life.  Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness,  and they died.
This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that anyone may eat of it and not die.
John 6:47-50 CSB
The people Jesus was talking to would've connected with Moses and manna from heaven. What happened then is part of their history, their culture, a reminder if when God was at work and saved their ancestors, and in effect, saved them.
But Jesus says that with him there is more. 
The manna was bread from heaven, but they still died.
I'm different.
I'm more.
This bread is more than life giving, it's eternal life giving.
The manna was just for the Hebrews, this bread is for everyone.
With Jesus, we're going to get out of this wilderness and make it to the promised land.
This bread is our hope.
And it's for everyone.

Genesis 15.8-18.ESV But he said O Lord God , how am I to know that I shall possess it? ...When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram... March 15 was the last day we looked at Abram's story...he was questioning God and this is God's response...sacrifices and smoke and fire and a covenant...a promise... Isn't that what we crave for sometimes? God, if only you'd just show me smoke & fire, a burning bush a sign, miracle, healing...then all my questions would disappear...all my doubts would be gone... 2moro we'll see Abram's response but I think God values our faith in spite of our questions and doubts. That we choose Him anyway #faith
