He had to travel through Samaria;
so he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar near the property that Jacob had given his son Joseph.
Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, worn out from his journey, sat down at the well.
It was about noon.
John 4:4-6 CSB
Jacob's well goes back to Genesis 31-33...
There's a lot going on in these chapters, but one thing that stands out is that Jacob was heading to meet his brother Esau and was afraid for his own life and everyone with him.
Esau was coming in power.
Jacob was afraid.
But Jacob was met with grace.
As this account in John's gospel unfolds that's a good thing to hold on to.
When we come to God, we may well be afraid.
Afraid that our sin is too big, too bad, too much.
Afraid that we are too bad.
Afraid that we'll be met with anger, with accusation.
Afraid that we are not enough.
But God meets us with grace.
His grace is (more than) enough.
His grace is (more than) enough.
His grace is (more than) enough.
