Jesus knew what they were thinking, and said
"Why this gossipy whispering?
Which do you think is simpler to say, 'I forgive your sins', or, 'Get up and walk'?
Well, just so its clear that I'm the Son of Man and authorised to do either or both..."
At this he turned to the paraplegic and said
Get up. Take your bed and go home.

Jesus wanted to make it clear who he really was. Clear to the sceptics
No room to think he was just a wise teacher or even a Healer.  He had the power to forgive sins against God...so either he was who he said he was or a charlatan.
He teased the priests a bit too...I even know what you're thinking :)
But come and see me for yourself if u want to really find out who I AM.

As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside privately and told them what was going to happen to him.  "Listen," he said,  "we're going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law.  They will sentence him to die.
