After all, what is Apollos? What is Paul?
They are servants who helped you to believe. Each one had a role given to them by the Lord:
I planted, Apollos watered,
but God made it grow. Because of this, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but the only one who is anything is God who makes it grow. The one who plants and the one who waters work together, but each one will receive their own reward for their own labor.
We are God's coworkers, and you are God's field, God's building.
1 Corinthians 3:5-9 CEB
Paul seems to still be dealing with people following strong personalities and placing more weight on them than they deserve.
It's easy to do right?
Buy all their books, listen to their podcasts.
What ___ says must always be right.
It's easy because they're here in front of us, tangible. But Paul is saying be careful.
It's God who does the real work in our spirit and soul.
And then at the end of this passage there's this beautiful little phrase:
"You are God's field.
God's building."
We are where God is at work shaping, cultivating, growing things.
We are where God is at creating spaces for others, shelter, room, places to share and flourish and create things.
God's fields and buildings.
You and I.
Yes the Paul's and the Apollo's are part of the story, but our God is at work in the ordinary, in us, in you, and at the same time we are what he delights in...
