Lord,
you alone
are my inheritance,
my cup of blessing.
You guard
all that is mine.
The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance!
I will
bless the Lord who guides me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I know the Lord is always with me.
I will not be shaken,
for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice.
My body rests in safety.
Psalms 16:5-9 NLT
After all the lament and sorrow and heartache of most of the first Psalms, here is David resting in the good, seeing the good.
Sometimes in life everything seems horrible, stained, tainted, and there's nothing good.
David chooses to focus on who God is, the goodness and blessing from knowing Him, that his future is secure, and even if it's only for this moment, he is safe.
Some days we need to do the same thing.
Choose to step back and grasp again the goodness of who God is and hold on to that.
Hold on again to the truth that nothing, nothing can separate us from God's love, and to see the goodness in our world, in our lives, in the now.
The psalmist is not naive about life or sugar coats anything, but at the same time holds firmly to God's goodness.
Look for it today.
Kia kaha whanau.
