Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them,
"We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!"

Hey team. This is what's ahead, this is going to happen...we're going to the city, I'm going to be arrested, tried, beaten and crucified.
Killed.
On. A. Cross.
And on the third day, there's going to be a huge event, I'm being raised back to life!
So don't be surprised or dismayed, this is the path ahead for me.
This is what I came for.
But Matthew records no questions, no concern, no "hang on Jesus, surely you don't mean this literally"...no "why?"
After all this time with him, they still had blinkers on about who Jesus really was, and what he was really about...let's not make the same mistake and just have a Jesus we're OK with...
