Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father.
He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end.
It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God.
So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples' feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.
John 13:1-5 NLT
What would you do if you knew you only had one or two days left on this earth?
Jesus knew.
He loved his team (even though one was going to let him down in a big way).
And on that day Jesus washed feet. He took up the position of the servant.
The server.
Jesus stooped down.
And served.
Not for adulation or praise or reward, but this is simply what Love does.
Jesus asks us to follow him. Some moments of some days I might be coming somewhere close to loving like this. But not many.
Jesus isn't doing this to set a standard or show us up, but to show how He Loves Us.
To show us what Easter is all about. God stooping down, serving, giving Himself, so that we can have Life.
Transforming dirty into clean, rejuvenating, coming close.
