Appoint lovingkindness and truth 
to watch over 
and preserve him.
Psalms 61:7 AMP
The last part of this song takes a change in direction, not sure if he is writing about himself as king, or looking forward to Jesus...but this phrase "appoint lovingkindness and truth to watch over and preserve..."
Watching over something, someone, keeping them safe. 
Preserving them.
Don't you want soldiers for that?
David says appoint lovingkindness.
Appoint truth.
This is our God. 
His character is lovingkindness & truth.
This is not some passive nice feeling, but God's lovingkindness & truth brought Jesus to dwell among us, to become the way for us.
To fight for us.
To fight for us by giving himself.
And he calls us to follow him, to be lovingkindness & truth in this world, the kind of lovingkindness & truth that fights for others, that preserves, that keeps people safe.
Lovingkindness and Truth have been appointed over us, go and do likewise

Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus... Mark 2:3-4 NLT Great account of inventiveness and determination to get their friend to see Jesus. Love this. Do you wonder about the back story? Are these the same 4 people who bring this man food? Take him to the toilet every day. Clean him up. Does he live with one of them? Are they family? Are there whole families or groups of people in the background who have supported and cared for this man? A group of children who grew up seeing their parents love in action? Probably. Healing Help Hope These things are found in community. These 4 guys are the heroes here. The upfront people. I always thank my God when I pray for you, Philemon, because I keep hearing about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God's people.  Philemon 1:4-5 NLT Philemon's testimony is given by others. His reputation is faith in Jesus and love for others. I wonder if we tend to see the externals (she's a great teacher, he's a wonderful worship leader) and miss character, heart, the whole person?  Whatever it is that Philemon does, others see faith in Jesus and love for others, and that's what Paul recognises as important. It's a heart thing. Our culture, our world wants us to focus on performance, rewards performance, yet, even as we look at the Olympics and marvel at human performance, it's the moments when we see people's hearts, what makes them tick, the emotions, hear what's important to them, that is what sticks and makes the games special.
