Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.
Proverbs 14:31 NIV
The not-to-do is oppress the poor.
I don't do that.
Do I?
Do I give so much that it affects my lifestyle? Or just enough to make me feel OK?
How do I treat those who work for me or are on lower pay? How do I see those in our society who are struggling financially more than me? It's so easy to blame them
It's so easy to look "up" with envy and never look "down" with care.
How much do I think about my purchasing decisions and where things come from... could I make some changes that would help others?
Jesus, the one we follow, gave up the glories of heaven to come and join us, the poor, to be born in poverty, who's early life was as a refugee...this proverb asks us to think about how well we're following Him...about who the poor are in our orbit
