Giving is good.
Disciplining ourselves is good too...but it's our heart that God is interested in...without our heart being oriented by love, it's just religion...just noise...we don't give to gain points with God, we don't practice spiritual disciplines to make ourselves more holy...because all of that work was accomplished by Jesus on our behalf.
So give because you want to, because your heart hurts for those who's needs are greater, get up early and pray because you want to...because you want communion with God...
