It's hard to bring up difficult issues with those we care about & it can take a lot of courage...and has a lot of risk...but I think this is more about being on the receiving end of criticism or concern...
Is it coming from a (sincere, real, genuine) friend? Then listen first for the heart...no matter what the criticism or issue this person loves me, cares for me, that's why they're taking the risk
While I love compliments, this proverb says it's about the source...better to hear the hard things from someone on your team :)
