Love is patient and kind.
1 Corinthians 13:4 NLT

If someone loves you and they're not patient, not prepared to wait, to slow down for you, get in stride with you, maybe it's not love. 
The Greek word for being patient is "makrothumeo" and it's a verb, an active thing. It means to be patient, to persevere, to refuse to get angry. Isn't that interesting!
To refuse to get angry.
For a long time.
Love waits. 
Love is OK waiting. 
Love is OK waiting because the person being loved is worth waiting for. 
God's love for us is patient. 
He made himself small, joined us in all our human frailties. 
He waits because the person He loves is worth waiting for.

Do you wonder about the back story? Are these the same 4 people who bring this man food? Take him to the toilet every day. Clean him up. Does he live with one of them? Are they family? Are there whole families or groups of people in the background who have supported and cared for this man? A group of children who grew up seeing their parents love in action? Probably. Healing Help Hope These things are found in community. These 4 guys are the heroes here. The upfront people. I always thank my God when I pray for you, Philemon, because I keep hearing about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God's people.  Philemon 1:4-5 NLT Philemon's testimony is given by others. His reputation is faith in Jesus and love for others. I wonder if we tend to see the externals (she's a great teacher, he's a wonderful worship leader) and miss character, heart, the whole person?  Whatever it is that Philemon does, others see faith in Jesus and love for others, and that's what Paul recognises as important. It's a heart thing. Our culture, our world wants us to focus on performance, rewards performance, yet, even as we look at the Olympics and marvel at human performance, it's the moments when we see people's hearts, what makes them tick, the emotions, hear what's important to them, that is what sticks and makes the games special.
