"No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment.
Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse."
Mark 2:21 NIV
What is Jesus on about here?
What you've got is old, worn, damaged, torn.
You just want to patch it up.
He's talking to the teachers of the law, those who set the cultural and religious tone.
The influencers.
The thought leaders
Jesus is saying to them "you're hearing something new and you want to patch that on your current systems, the way things are done - it's not going to work!"
You can't just add a Christian veneer to society, to organisations, even church.
Jesus kingdom is a kingdom of the heart and it's not a patch on the outside, but transforming from the inside.
If you & I are worn, damaged, torn, Jesus wants to transform us too, not just patch us up, but transform from the inside...
