Matthew 25:37-40 NLT
"Then these righteous ones will reply,
'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you?
Or thirsty and give you something to drink?
Or a stranger and show you hospitality?
Or naked and give you clothing?
When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?'
"And the King will say,
'I tell you the truth,
when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me!'"
Matthew 25:37-40 NLT
If it was Jesus who was hungry, thirsty, struggling, he knew his people would be there.
It's not always easy stepping towards someone who needs help, but way easier when we know and love them.
Jesus seems to be inviting his disciples, those listening, into a way of being in the world that is not afraid of stepping towards suffering, loss, hurt, need, into a way of seeing the small, the least, as seeing Jesus.
Maybe that's what Chrismas is really all about.
