John 15.4-5.ESV
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.  I am the vine; you are the branches...

Further back in John 15 and we have more about abiding. And it's described like a vine and branches. The branch has no life on its own. It needs the vine.
The branch is physically joined to the vine for this to work.
How are we joined?
Through God's Spirit living in us...
If this wasn't important Jesus wouldn't have spoken at such length about it...abiding in Jesus...letting the Spirit give life...speak life...in us...
And this is where fruit, kingdom fruit, comes from as God speaks life into others...
