I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. 
But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.
Philippians 3:12 NLT
Can you picture this old guy in a Roman jail, with the possibility that this lockdown will be his last (because he will die there).
And he writes this: 
I'm future focussed, living in the hope of heaven but not wallowing in that. God's got work to do in me so I'm pushing on.
And I'm goin to keep writing, and keep talking about Jesus, about faith, because this hope is real.

It's easy to lose sight of Jesus when our circumstances are unfair, when life pushes in, when we have to face things we'd rather not, when we listen to the lies that run around inside... let's take some inspiration from an old guy locked up for his faith who just wants to push on into the life, the hope, the grace, the love that is Jesus.

Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus... Mark 2:3-4 NLT Great account of inventiveness and determination to get their friend to see Jesus. Love this. Do you wonder about the back story? Are these the same 4 people who bring this man food? Take him to the toilet every day. Clean him up. Does he live with one of them? Are they family? Are there whole families or groups of people in the background who have supported and cared for this man? A group of children who grew up seeing their parents love in action? Probably. Healing Help Hope These things are found in community. These 4 guys are the heroes here. The upfront people. As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside privately and told them what was going to happen to him.  "Listen," he said,  "we're going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law.  They will sentence him to die. Matthew 20:17-20 NLT Jesus wanted his team, those closest to him, to know what was going to happen next.  It seems he wanted them to be prepared.  To be able to hold the hope of what's at the end as they go through the watching him be betrayed, sentenced, mocked, abused, and killed.  I wonder if Jesus needed to tell them, to let those he knew best what was ahead because he needed them with him.
