Mark 8:34-37 NLT
Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, 
"If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.
If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.
And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?
Is anything worth more than your soul?"
Mark 8:34-37 NLT

When Jesus asks a question, it's worth sitting with, and here he asks the crowd 2 questions:

What do benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?

The word "soul" is the same word translated as "life", "psuche", psyche, soul, the inner part of us.
Jesus is asking us about our inner life and what's most important - the outer life that others can see?
Or the inner life, the "who I am" part of me?

"Is anything worth more than your soul?"
Jesus.

Easter gives us the answer, when Jesus gave up the outer life to save our soul, our psuche, our inner life.
He went to the cross not for the things we build or strive for, but for us, the inner, deeper us.
Hard to imagine?
Difficult to accept?
Yet this is the Easter Story...
"Is anything worth more than your soul?"
Jesus.

The "mighty things" he wants God to do are all on the outside, all about power, and David's writing sounds like he's a bit lost in his quest to win. And I do the same thing. Praise God and ask him to fix my problems. Fix the classroom/online/workplace bully, fix my finances, fix my relationships, fix my problems. Proverbs 6:16-17 CSB This list of things that Proverbs describes that our God stands against, are anti-God, must be things that God isn't.  It's easy to use Proverbs as a weapon, to accuse or label others, but Proverbs is about finding the way of wisdom, of life, it's about the heart, mine, yours, ours.  And it's full of metaphor.
