Mark 3:31-35 CEB
His mother and brothers arrived. They stood outside and sent word to him, calling for him. A crowd was seated around him, and those sent to him said,
"look, your mother, brothers, and sisters are outside looking for you." He replied,
"Who is my mother?
Who are my brothers?" Looking around at those seated around him in a circle, he said,
"Look,
here are my mother and my brothers.
Whoever does Gods will is my brother, sister, and mother."
Mark 3:31-35 CEB
Jesus Kingdom, belonging, adoption into His Family is not bound by our cultural idea of what family is or "should" be.
Jesus wasn't rejecting his family here, but broadening the idea of who is important, who matters, who belongs.
Those who were following, listening, belong.
Doing God's will in that moment was doing exactly what that crowd of people was doing - following Jesus, listening to His word.
Jesus wrapped everyone in that day, and wraps us all in.
