Lord,
I call to you;
my rock,
do not be deaf to me.
If you remain silent to me,
I will be like those going down to the Pit.
Listen to the sound of my pleading when I cry to you for help,
when I lift up my hands toward your holy sanctuary.
Psalms 28:1-2 CSB
David shows us how to pray when we are in trouble.
Maybe he's been calling out to God and it seems like He is deaf.
Silent.
This is a prayer of someone who is really hurting.
Really hurting.
And in his hurt he is still crying to God.
My rock.
When things are good it's easy to see God as our rock. The solid place.
The foundation.
The safe, secure, strong place.
And David reminds us that when we're hurting,
really hurting,
He is our rock then too.
And there's the freedom to cry, to cry out, to plead.
Last night I did some pleading with God.
In Church.
But we don't have to be there, we can do this anywhere.
This Psalm, this song, not only gives us the freedom to cry out to God in our hurt, but says this is a good and right and normal thing to do.
It's OK when we're not OK to tell God.
To cry.
To plead.
To lift our hands towards Him.
