After going a little farther, he saw James and John, Zebedee's sons, in their boat repairing the fishing nets.
At that very moment he called them.
They followed him, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired workers.
Mark 1:19-20 CEB
Part 2 of Jesus Calling.
Still no highly educated students of the law, but two more fishermen, this time working in the family business.
The implication seems to be that James and John were already living out their destiny, firmly entrenched in the family business, working with their Dad, learning from him.
And Jesus calls them.
Calls them away from what they were born into, away from what they were brought up in, away from what seemed the only way for them to be in the world.
Maybe it is a massive change that Jesus is calling you into, or it may be in something small, something unseen, a way of thinking, that inner voice, a way of being in the world, a habit or habitual choice that we know isn't that healthy or good for us, something that felt like a destiny, a family trait, a learned behaviour, and Jesus says "come and follow me".
Jesus called James and John from a good thing, into something different, to be part of something bigger.
Is Jesus calling?
