The thing is that when you get sick, lose your job, graduate, finish that project, I don't suffer or rejoice if I don't know. 
Paul is calling us to a deep level of connection, and an empathy for one another that we simply can't do with everyone. 
But we can do it with a few. 
And particularly when it comes to suffering it should lead us to act. To change broken systems, to right injustice, to provide care and sanctuary. 
We are in this together, made for community, messy, suffering, joyful community.
Our culture is pushing us to be more isolated and more insulated from one another and Paul is teaching the opposite.
