This is what we will do to them: We will let them live, so that God's wrath will not fall on us for breaking the oath we swore to them. They continued, "Let them live, but let them be woodcutters and water carriers in the service of the whole assembly." So the leaders promise to them was kept. Joshua 9:20-21 NIV Our God is a covenant God. He takes his promises seriously and expects us to be the same. Here God's people were learning that lesson. How am I at keeping my covenants? My promises? What am I known for? Do I reflect God's character here? And there's a leadership lesson...keeping our integrity, our promises, but finding a solution that works... #joshua #leadershiplessons #promises #covenant #covenantGod
But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the assembly had sworn an oath to them by the Lord, the God of Israel. The whole assembly grumbled against the leaders, but all the leaders answered, "We have given them our oath by the Lord , the God of Israel, and we cannot touch them now." Joshua 9:18-19 NIV Josh's team was deceived (because they didn't ask God first) & made a deal,  commitment, a covenant. There was public dissent. Pressure. The people were unhappy, but the leadership not only stuck to their promise, but stuck together. Not just a practical leadership lesson whether that's at home, at work, at church, but also a picture of how God stuck with his promises, his covenant, even though it hurt, even though it cost him. Jesus stayed on the cross for me, when he could easily have walked away... #joshua #leadershiplessons #promises #covenant
