That is why I am boldly asking a favor of you. I could demand it in the name of Christ because it is the right thing for you to do.

But because of our love, I prefer simply to ask you.

Paul could have leaned in his authority, but he prefered the strength if their relationship. 

Paul could have demanded, required, but he preferred to ask.

Paul could have exercised power, but preferred love. 

I'm wondering how I approach others over difficult things, especially where I might have some power or authority...

I don't know what motivated Paul to write his thoughts this way, but they can be useful for us to consider how we go about meeting people and expressing what we need.
