who shuts his ears 

to the cry of the poor 

will himself 

also call out 

and not be answered.

Ouch.

This word "poor" here seems to carry the meaning of low, poor, less than, dangling.

It's going to cover the hungry, the lonely, the poor, the abused.

The victim.

Who's cry have I heard and ignored?

Been unmoved?

Yes we're finite creatures with finite resources, and the problems of the world are so big, but those who cry out are often close at hand, and we can do something.

It may be to acknowledge.

To listen.

To touch.

To give.

To welcome in.

To feed.

To ask.

To pray.

To cry with.

To sit with.

To honour.

To see.

To love.

We are not without resources and choices, but it starts with our hearts being open to others.

A heart that is moved.

Maybe '21 is a year that our God wants to nudge our hearts just a little.

To open our borders just a little.

To step towards others just a small step at a time.
